Hey guys!

Today, at 12 pm we had the final event of the Microsoft Reactor São Paulo DP-700 certification series!

I participated as a moderator in the chat, together with master Sidney Cirqueira, in a session presented by experts Armando Lacerda (MVP and certification master) and Samyr (MCT focused on AI and Data).

The topic was the final stage of preparation for the DP-700: Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification. If you want to establish yourself as a Data Engineer in the most modern Microsoft ecosystem, this post is your definitive guide. We will detail everything that was discussed about the test, study strategies and how to master Fabric in practice.

What is the DP-700 and why is it your next target?

DP-700 is an intermediate-level certification (Associate) focused 100% on Microsoft Fabric. It doesn't just assess whether you know how to click buttons, but rather your ability to design, implement and monitor end-to-end data solutions.

During the live, we discussed that the data engineering market has an absurd shortage of good professionals. Certification is the seal of authority that proves you understand:

  • Data ingestion and transformation (Data Factory and Spark).
  • Lakehouse and Data Warehouse architectures.
  • Security, governance and monitoring.
  • Essential languages: T-SQL, PySpark and KQL (Kusto Query Language).
Observation: As Armando said: “The journey is more interesting than the arrival”. Don't study just to pass the test; study to master the product. If you know how to use Fabric on a daily basis, certification will be just the icing on the cake.

Preparation Strategy: Beyond the Theoretical

Many professionals fail because they get stuck just reading. For the DP-700, Microsoft Learn is its official base, but the real kicker is in the practical labs.

Microsoft provides repositories on GitHub (MicrosoftLearning) with guided exercises. You need to get your hands dirty, create your workspace, upload a Lakehouse and run your Notebooks.

Emphasis: You can get 100% discount vouchers for this test through AI Skills Fest. Keep an eye on the challenges (Cloud Skills Challenges) that Microsoft launches regularly; It's the best way to get certified without spending a penny.

The Exam Day Experience: Golden Tips

Armando and Samyr showed the “Sandbox” of the test, and here are some fundamental technical insights:

  • Access to Microsoft Learn: Yes, now the tests are “in consultation” with official documentation. There is a button on the screen that opens Learn. But be careful: telemetry shows that those who use Learn too much end up failing due to lack of time. Use only to “get rid of” a specific detail.
  • “No Return Scenario” questions: There are blocks of questions that present the same scenario with different solutions. Once you click “Next”, you cannot go back to correct it. Pay close attention here!
  • Case Studies: They are long texts with technical and business requirements tabs. Go straight to the question, see what it asks for (e.g. “low-code solution”) and look for that specific requirement in the text.
Critical Alert: Time management is vital. The test has around 60 questions in just over two hours. If you find a question that is too complex, select an option, post it for Review (Review Later) and move on. Never leave a question blank.
