Hey guys!
For those who follow me on social media, you know that last week I participated in the Power Platform World Tour São Paulo event, one of the biggest Power BI events in the world (in addition to Power Automate and Power Apps). It was truly an honor to be able to participate in an event so well organized by MVP Pablo Peralta and other team members, who brought together several renowned speakers from Brazil.
The event was held at the Renaissance São Paulo Hotel, a very luxurious hotel that presented a professional structure in all aspects, both in the acoustics and equipment of the lecture rooms, and in the professionals involved throughout the event.
I was scheduled to give two talks at this event:
- Power BI Report Server – The ultimate BI and data visualization solution for your business
- Monitoring your SQL Server environment with Power BI
Power BI Report Server – The ultimate BI and data visualization solution for your business
The first lecture would be held on the first day of the event, at 11 am. Anyone who knows me well knows that I don't like repeating lectures and I always try to create completely new lectures at each event, even if it's on the same topic. Well, I finished putting together the slides and demonstrations at around 2am and went to sleep to wake up at 4:30am to get ready to catch the 6am flight... lol... Everything went well in the presentation, I believe that the people who watched it liked the presentation and left the talk with a clear idea of what Power BI Report Server is, ideal scenarios for its use and scenarios in which Power BI online is most suitable.

Monitoring your environment with SQL Server and Power BI
During lunch on the first day, I learned that a speaker would not be able to attend on Tuesday and I was offered the opportunity to give another talk, my third at the event. And I accepted.. lol.. I hadn't even started giving my second talk that I was going to give on Tuesday and now I still had to prepare another talk from one day to the next.. How crazy I had just done.. hahaha
I finished watching the lectures that caught my attention the most, participated in the Happy Hour we did there at the event itself and headed to the hotel to complete my mission of preparing TWO completely new lectures that I had never given before.
The first lecture was “Monitoring your environment with SQL Server and Power BI”, where I used the scripts for creating 40 alerts from Fabrício Lima to capture and store essential information to keep a SQL Server environment running and stay ahead of potential problems. With this data stored, it was just a matter of connecting Power BI to this created base to analyze and visualize the alerts and indicators that were being monitored.
Honestly, I think the presentation was really cool, but maybe not for a business audience. For a SQL Saturday it would have been something more in line with the profile of the participants and I saw some points of improvement that I will correct to present once again on a SQL Saturday in 2020... lol... Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of this presentation, even though I took about 15 photos of each of the 6 lectures I attended that day and sent them to the speakers... ¬¬

Power BI: DirectQuery, Live Connection and Import
And to finish my participation in this event, I delivered the talk “Power BI: DirectQuery, Live Connection and Import”, where I was able to demonstrate the different types of data storage modes in Power BI, comparison between Import, DirectQuery and Import and gave a practical demonstration of loading and processing data in a 25 million row format between these 3 storage modes.

As I had already mentioned, it was truly a pleasure to participate in this event and I hope to return again next year. I hope this serves to encourage and warm up local Power BI groups and that more events like this are organized in Brazil. If you don't already participate in technical communities, get moving, get informed and start participating TODAY!
A big hug and see you in the next article.
